Lesson 7 – Place Value (Decimal Numbers)

Objective:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to know the place value & value of all the digits in a given decimal number.

Decimals are numbers that have a point in between two digits.

Examples

1) 41.6 (forty one point six)

2) 24.128 (twenty four point one, two, eight)

3) 0.45 (zero point four, five)

Decimals also have place values. The first number after the point is in the tenth place, the second number after the point is in the hundredth place and the next is the thousandth then the ten thousandth.

Example: Write the value and place value of all the digits in the number

41.6078 (forty one point six zero seven eight).
