Lesson 3- Writing Fractions As Decimals

Objective

At the end of this lesson, students should be able to write fractions in the decimal form.

In the same way that decimals can be written as fractions, fractions can also be written in the decimal form.

Example 1

Write these fractions as decimals.

Fractions with denominators other than 10,100 or 1000 can also be converted to decimals.

The following steps may guide you when changing such fractions to decimals:

Example 2

Convert these fractions to decimals.

Sometimes you may be asked to convert fractions whose denominators are not factors of 10, 100 or 1000 to decimals. For such fractions, divide the numerator by the denominator (using long division) to get your decimal.

Example 3

Change these to decimals.

For fractions with whole numbers, the whole number comes before the decimal point, and then the fraction part comes after the decimal point.

Example 4

Write the decimal equivalent of these fractions.
