Lesson 2– Types Of Fractions

Objective:

At the end of this lesson, students should be able to know and identify the types of fractions.

PROPER FRACTION:

This is the type of fraction where the number on top (numerator) is less than the number at the bottom (denominator).

Note that 3 is less than 5. Therefore 3/5 is a proper fraction.

IMPROPER FRACTIONS:

This is the type of fraction where the number on top (numerator) is greater than the number at the bottom (denominator).

5 is greater than 2. Therefore5/2  is an improper fraction.

MIXED FRACTION OR MIXED NUMBER:

This is the type of fraction that has a whole number and a proper fraction.

2 is the whole number and  is a proper fraction.
