At the end of this unit, students should be able to:

- Know the number of digits in a given number.

In this lesson we will find out the number of digits a given number should have.

__NOTE__**:**

**A given number should have the following number of digits;**

- A Unit / One number has……………..1 digit.
- A number in the Tens has…………….2 digits.
- A number in the Hundreds has…….3 digits.
- A number in the Thousands has……4 digits.
- A number in the Tens of Thousands has…………………5 digits.
- A number in the Hundreds of Thousands has…………6 digits

A number in the **thousands** should have **four (4) digits**. Examples are 3739, 3008, 2130, etc.

A number in the **hundreds** should have **three (3) digits**. Examples are 301,500,279,102, etc.

A number in the **tens of thousands** should have **five (5) digits**. Examples are 35142, 10120, 11029, 83103, etc.
