At the end of this lesson, students should be able to subtract fractions from whole numbers.
NOTE:
When subtracting a fraction from a whole number, you simply look at the fraction; paying close attention to its denominator.
The denominator tells how many parts of the fraction are in one whole.
We can then apply this knowledge to other whole numbers.
For instance, one quarter is written as 1/4 . The denominator is ‘4’ therefore there are four quarters in one whole. Hence, one whole can be written as 4/4 . If there are four quarters in one whole, two wholes will contain eight quarters and can be written as 8/4 .
